SUMMARY:National Petroleum Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:At the end of the summer on August 27th\, Americans celebrate National Petroleum Day. \nThe day is celebrated by many working in the oil and gas industries\, and used as a platform to gather and discuss the may issues that face the industry. Crude oil and other liquids produced from fossil fuels are refined into petroleum products that people use for many different purposes. Biofuels\, such as ethanol and biodiesel\, are also used as petroleum products\, mainly in mixtures with gasoline and diesel fuel \nPetroleum was discovered by Edwin L. Drake on August 27\, 1858 in Titusville\, Pennsylvania. He struck oil 70 feet beneath the surface in Titusville\, thus launching the modern-day petroleum industry in the USA. This event is very important for the history of Titusville\, because since the discovery of crude oil the region became prosperous. \nAlthough used for many different types of product in many different industries\, we need to consider the fact the world will eventually run out of petrol reserves and we therefore need to find kinder alternatives and substitutes. A highly contentious issue\, this is a subject that we should not ignore and continue to learn more about. \nYou could get involved in the day by considering what products you use in your lives that use petroleum and attempting to find kinder alternatives. You could also research more about the effect on the world our petroleum consumption has\, and what is being done in your areas to minimise and risks.

SUMMARY:National Toasted Marshmallow Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:What is National Toasted Marshmallow Day?\nNational Toasted Marshmallow Day is celebrated on 30 August each year\, dedicated to the simple pleasure of toasting marshmallows over an open flame. The day honours one of the most beloved sweet treats in the world — the toasted marshmallow\, with its perfectly caramelised golden-brown exterior and warm\, gooey centre. Whether enjoyed on its own\, sandwiched between biscuits in a s’more\, or used as a topping for hot chocolate\, the toasted marshmallow holds a special place in food culture\, particularly in the United States where this food holiday originated. \nWhen is National Toasted Marshmallow Day?\nNational Toasted Marshmallow Day is observed on 30 August every year\, falling near the end of summer when campfires and outdoor gatherings are at their peak. \n\n\n\nYear\nDate\nDay\n\n\n\n\n2024\n30 August\nFriday\n\n\n2025\n30 August\nSaturday\n\n\n2026\n30 August\nSunday\n\n\n2027\n30 August\nMonday\n\n\n2028\n30 August\nWednesday\n\n\n\nWhy National Toasted Marshmallow Day Matters\nNational Toasted Marshmallow Day celebrates a tradition that brings people together around a fire\, whether at a campsite\, in a garden\, or at a beach barbecue. Toasting marshmallows is one of those universal experiences that transcends age — children and adults alike find joy in the ritual of threading a marshmallow onto a stick\, holding it over the flames\, and watching it transform into a golden\, bubbling confection. \nThe day also taps into a deep sense of nostalgia. For many people\, toasting marshmallows is closely associated with childhood memories of camping trips\, bonfire nights\, scout activities\, and summer holidays. These shared experiences create bonds between generations and form lasting family traditions. \nFalling on 30 August\, near the end of summer\, the day provides the perfect excuse for one final outdoor gathering before autumn arrives. It encourages people to spend time outdoors\, disconnect from screens\, and enjoy simple pleasures in the company of friends and family. \nThe Art of Toasting Marshmallows\nToasting marshmallows is both simple and surprisingly divisive. Everyone has their own preferred technique and level of doneness: \n\nThe golden perfectionist — Slowly rotates the marshmallow at a careful distance from the flames\, achieving an even\, golden-brown caramelisation all over. This method requires patience but delivers the most consistent results.\nThe flamboyant approach — Plunges the marshmallow directly into the flames\, lets it catch fire\, then blows it out for a charred\, smoky exterior with a completely liquid interior. Quick and dramatic.\nThe barely toasted — Holds the marshmallow at the edge of the heat\, warming it just enough to soften the centre while keeping the exterior largely intact.\n\nRegardless of technique\, the key to a good toasted marshmallow is ensuring the centre becomes warm and melting while the outside develops a satisfying caramelised crust. \nHow to Get Involved\n\nBuild a campfire — The most traditional way to celebrate is to toast marshmallows over a campfire. If you do not have access to a fire pit\, a barbecue or even a gas hob will work in a pinch.\nMake s’mores — Sandwich a toasted marshmallow and a piece of chocolate between two digestive biscuits or graham crackers for the classic s’more. Experiment with different chocolate varieties and biscuit types for your own signature version.\nTry indoor alternatives — Use a kitchen blowtorch to toast marshmallows at home\, or place them under the grill for a quick and easy indoor alternative. Toasted marshmallows also make an excellent topping for hot chocolate\, brownies\, or sweet potato dishes.\nHost a marshmallow party — Invite friends and family for a marshmallow toasting gathering in your garden. Set up a variety of toppings and accompaniments for a marshmallow dessert bar.\nGet creative — Try making marshmallow-based recipes such as rocky road\, marshmallow-topped baked sweet potatoes\, or toasted marshmallow milkshakes.\nShare on social media — Post photos of your toasted marshmallow creations using the hashtag #NationalToastedMarshmallowDay.\n\nHistory of National Toasted Marshmallow Day\nNational Toasted Marshmallow Day is believed to have been created by the National Confectioners Association (NCA)\, the trade body representing the confectionery industry in the United States. The exact year of its founding is not definitively documented\, but the day has been widely observed since at least 2020. \nThe history of marshmallows themselves stretches back thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians are believed to have been the first to create a marshmallow-like confection by extracting sap from the marshmallow plant (Althaea officinalis)\, mixing it with honey\, and forming it into sweets. This early version of the marshmallow was considered a delicacy reserved for gods and royalty and was also used medicinally to soothe sore throats and suppress coughs. \nThe modern marshmallow as we know it today was developed in France in the 19th century\, when confectioners began whipping the marshmallow root extract with sugar and egg whites to create a lighter\, fluffier sweet. By the mid-1800s\, the process was further refined\, and by the early 1900s\, manufacturers had replaced the marshmallow root extract with gelatine\, making mass production possible. The marshmallow crossed the Atlantic to the United States\, where it became hugely popular and firmly established itself as a campfire essential. \nThe tradition of toasting marshmallows over a fire is thought to have originated in North America\, where campfire culture has long been a central part of outdoor recreation. The first known published recipe for s’mores appeared in a 1927 Girl Scout publication called “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts”\, cementing the toasted marshmallow’s place in American food culture. \nHashtags: #NationalToastedMarshmallowDay #ToastedMarshmallow #Smores #Marshmallow
