World Homeopathy Awareness Week 2026
April 10 - April 16

What is World Homeopathy Awareness Week?
World Homeopathy Awareness Week (WHAW) is an annual international campaign held from 10 to 16 April each year to promote awareness and understanding of homeopathy. The week is organised by the World Homeopathy Awareness Organisation (WHAO), a not-for-profit body run by volunteers, and is supported by homeopathic practitioners, organisations, and advocates around the world.
During the week, free public events are held across dozens of countries, including lectures, seminars, media interviews, and free or reduced-price consultations. The campaign aims to raise public awareness of homeopathy, improve accessibility to homeopathic treatment, and provide information about how homeopathy is used as a complementary approach to health and wellbeing.
When is World Homeopathy Awareness Week?
World Homeopathy Awareness Week runs from 10 to 16 April each year. The start date of 10 April was chosen to mark the birthday of Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), the German physician who is credited with founding homeopathy. World Homeopathy Day on 10 April serves as the opening of the awareness week.

Why World Homeopathy Awareness Week Matters
Homeopathy is a system of complementary medicine based on the principle of “like cures like” — the idea that a substance which causes symptoms in a healthy person can, when given in a highly diluted form, help to treat similar symptoms in someone who is unwell. It is one of the most widely used forms of complementary and alternative medicine globally, with an estimated 200 million people using homeopathic remedies worldwide.
Homeopathy was developed in the late 18th century by Dr Samuel Hahnemann, who was dissatisfied with the harsh medical practices of his time, including bloodletting and the use of toxic substances. Hahnemann conducted systematic experiments, which he called “provings,” to test the effects of various natural substances on healthy individuals. From these experiments, he developed the core principles of homeopathy, including the use of highly diluted preparations known as remedies.
Homeopathic remedies are prepared from natural sources including plants, minerals, and animal products. They are produced through a process of serial dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking), which practitioners believe enhances the remedy’s healing properties. Remedies are prescribed on an individual basis, taking into account the whole person — their physical symptoms, emotional state, and general constitution — rather than focusing solely on a specific disease or condition.
It is important to note that homeopathy remains a subject of significant scientific debate. While many people report positive experiences with homeopathic treatment, and homeopathy is integrated into the national healthcare systems of several countries, mainstream scientific bodies have raised concerns about the lack of robust clinical evidence for its efficacy beyond placebo effects. World Homeopathy Awareness Week provides an opportunity for the homeopathic community to share information, present testimonials, and engage in public dialogue about the role of homeopathy in modern healthcare.
How to Get Involved
There are several ways to participate in World Homeopathy Awareness Week:
- Attend a free event — Many homeopathic practitioners and organisations offer free lectures, workshops, and open clinics during the week. Check with your local homeopathic society for events near you.
- Learn about homeopathy — Whether you are curious or sceptical, the week provides an opportunity to learn more about the principles, history, and practice of homeopathy from qualified practitioners.
- Share your experience — If you have used homeopathy, consider sharing your experience on social media or at a local event to contribute to the wider conversation about complementary healthcare.
- Visit a homeopath — If you are interested in exploring homeopathy, the week is a good time to book a consultation with a registered practitioner. Organisations such as the Society of Homeopaths and the National Center for Homeopathy maintain directories of qualified practitioners.
- Support homeopathic organisations — Volunteer with or donate to organisations that promote homeopathic education and research.
- Spread awareness — Share information about the week on social media using the relevant hashtags.
History
World Homeopathy Awareness Week was established by the World Homeopathy Awareness Organisation to create a dedicated annual period for promoting public awareness of homeopathy. The choice of 10 April as the starting date pays tribute to Dr Samuel Hahnemann, born on that date in 1755 in Meissen, Saxony (now Germany).
Hahnemann published his foundational text, the “Organon of the Healing Art,” in 1810, laying out the principles of homeopathy that practitioners continue to follow today. His work was revolutionary for its time, emphasising gentle, individualised treatment at a period when mainstream medicine relied heavily on aggressive interventions.
Homeopathy spread rapidly across Europe and beyond during the 19th century, gaining particular popularity in India, where it remains one of the most widely practised forms of complementary medicine. Today, homeopathy is practised in more than 80 countries, with formal regulation and training programmes in many of them.
World Homeopathy Awareness Week has grown steadily since its inception, with events now taking place across the globe. The week serves as a focal point for the homeopathic community to celebrate its heritage, engage with the public, and advocate for greater recognition and accessibility of homeopathic treatment within the wider healthcare landscape.
